Impacta VC has announced its largest investment to date, backing the Latin‑American fintech startup Retorna, which aims to overhaul the region’s remittance market.
Why the investment stands out
According to the filing, Impacta VC was drawn to Retorna after the company proved it could operate entirely on bootstrapped capital before raising this round. Catalina Taricco, the firm’s chief operating and marketing officer, said the startup “reached a very good level as a company, with operations 100 % sustained by bootstrapping before raising this round,” highlighting its ability to build a viable business from the ground up.
Retorna’s team brings together expertise from multiple disciplines, targeting a market estimated at US$ 160 million in Latin America alone. The founders’ personal experience as migrants, she noted, gives them “an unstoppable drive” because they “are the primary users of the problem they solve.” That personal connection, she argued, differentiates the venture from other players.

Beyond the founders’ insight, the startup promises faster remittance processing and reach into remote locations that have traditionally been underserved. It also offers 24‑hour, seven‑day‑a‑week customer support staffed by human agents, a feature she called “gold” in today’s market.
Growth strategy and regulatory environment
Retorna is adding five new routes every two to three weeks, a pace that suggests the company can meet the varied regulatory demands of different countries without major delays. Co‑founder and CEO Atilana Piñón said the goal is to “increase the user base to gain dominance in the markets we operate.”
Impacta VC plans to support the startup with more than capital. The firm will provide “knowledge and connections,” helping Retorna shape its Series A strategy and secure the next financing round. It also intends to aid market‑penetration efforts and the rollout of additional routes.
In practice, this rapid expansion could translate into broader financial inclusion for migrants who depend on timely, affordable transfers. If the company can sustain its service quality while scaling, the impact on everyday users could be significant, offering a reliable alternative to slower, costlier options.

Alignment with broader goals
The investment aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10.2, which focuses on reducing inequality and promoting economic inclusion. By improving the efficiency and accessibility of remittance services, Retorna helps migrants integrate financially and tackle a core challenge of moving money across borders.
Retorna continues to roll out new routes and refine its service.
As the company expands, the backing from Impacta VC signals confidence in its ability to grow and highlights the broader potential for Latin‑American fintechs to solve regional challenges on a global scale.
